TALLHEDA's Summer School

TALLHEDA Summer School on Digital Agriculture took place from July 16th to July 18th in Ghent, Belgium. It was organised and hosted by the University of Ghent.


Participants from Serbia, Greece and Belgium joined to explore the forefront of Precision Agriculture and Digital Agriculture. This immersive experience included insightful courses, practical demonstrations, and company visits, offering a comprehensive look at the innovative techniques transforming agriculture today.


Day 1: Kathy Steppe delivered an insightful session on Plant Sensors for Digital Agriculture, which was both informative and thought-provoking. After a short break, Wouter Maes gave an expert talk on Remote Sensing for Digital Agriculture. The day concluded with an enlightening farm visit, providing a practical perspective to complement our morning sessions.





Day 2: Simon Cool kicked off the day with a fascinating lecture on Robotics in Agriculture, exploring the transformative potential of robotics in modern farming. He continued to impress us with an on-field demonstration, explaining how these technologies are revolutionizing the agricultural landscape. Sebastiaan Verbesselt led a dynamic demo on AI and Drones in Agriculture, showcasing practical applications and innovations in the field. The day concluded with an engaging workshop on Data Sharing in Agriculture, presented by DjustConnect, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and data integration in driving agricultural advancements.





Day 3: The day began with an enlightening session on the Internet of Things (IoT) for digital agriculture by Koen Uyttenhove. He delved into how IoT is reshaping agricultural practices, from precision farming to smart systems, enhancing efficiency and productivity. Participants then visited AVR machinery, a leading company in potato machinery. This visit provided a unique opportunity to see cutting-edge technology and innovation in action. The day concluded with a visit to AGRISTO NV, where attendees gained insights into frozen potato production. This visit was an eye-opening experience, showcasing how modern techniques are driving the industry forward.





In conclusion, the TALLHEDA Summer School on Digital Agriculture was an invaluable experience that significantly broadened our understanding of the transformative potential of modern agricultural technologies. The comprehensive program, featuring expert-led sessions, practical demonstrations, and insightful company visits, provided a deep dive into the innovative techniques shaping the future of agriculture.
