In a joint effort to accelerate digital transformation and sustainability in Europe, TALLHEDA, a Horizon Europe WIDERA project focused on advancing digital agriculture, has partnered with MANTRA, a Horizon Europe Innovation Action dedicated to supporting manufacturing SMEs in their transition toward greener and more digitally integrated operations.
While TALLHEDA focuses on building capacity for digital agriculture, MANTRA is aimed at strengthening the manufacturing sector—a pillar of the European economy largely composed of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Though vital for employment and growth, the manufacturing sector is also energy-intensive and responsible for nearly 20% of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Through this strategic collaboration, both projects seek to create cross-sectoral synergies that empower SMEs to adopt smarter, more sustainable, and more circular practices—leveraging digital technologies as a common enabler.
A Shared Vision for Sustainable Innovation
One of MANTRA’s core initiatives is the direct financial and innovation support to 50 manufacturing SMEs, each receiving €50,000 in funding. This is coupled with a tailored innovation journey to help SMEs identify and unlock their digital potential within a sustainable business model, leading to more efficient, circular, and resilient production systems.
By joining forces, TALLHEDA and MANTRA will explore:
Cross-sector knowledge exchange, including best practices from digital agriculture and manufacturing.
Joint capacity-building activities, with TALLHEDA contributing educational content and digital tools for sustainability.
Shared innovation pathways, to support SMEs in both agriculture and manufacturing to transition to low-carbon, resource-efficient business models.
Collaborative community-building, connecting advisors, tech experts, SMEs, and researchers from both domains.
This partnership signals a new wave of European innovation, where digital and green transitions are not confined to individual sectors but are part of an interconnected strategy to build a smarter, more sustainable future.
